This is amazing! Day 40. The final day of this experiment. It is amazing to me that I managed to make it 40 days of this. Especially since at the start, I wasn’t sure I could even make it two days. Thirty days was the highest goal. And here I am, finishing the experiment on Day 40, ten days more than my highest goal. Pretty exciting.
It was beautiful out again, after many days of endless rain, and I knew that I needed to spend this last day walking around outside, resetting my mind after working. This preserve I decided to visit actually seemed a bit lame, but I decided to go explore it anyway. The trip there was a huge pain, fraught with one way streets and giant traffic jams. Of course, the last day wouldn’t come easy. Then I couldn’t even find the entrance to this place. At last I decided to give up and go find some new restaurant or something. In the end, I really wanted the last day to be me outside exploring a new place, but all that truly mattered was that I go somewhere new. And as I gave up, I made a turn and found the entrance!
I pulled in and saw these huge lakes. There were a lot of people here on this wonderful day. I am always a bit surprised, because every new place I visit seems like a hidden secret to me that I have just discovered. So it is always strange to realize so many other people know about all these secrets. This place was great though. A lot of trees, the lakes were great. There were a lot of people sitting along the edges fishing. There were a lot of little trails that led off of the main path and into the woods.
I had some time to reflect on the passage of time. Whenever I went straight home from work, I’d log onto my computer and the evening would be gone in an instant. And I’d feel just as stressed as I had been all day. But whenever I explored a new outdoor trail, an hour or two seemed to last forever. My mind would calm and center, and the stress from the day would gradually fade away. It still amazes me that there is so much more time outside than there is inside.
