So, one thing that has become exceedingly clear to me after the initiation of my “Days of New” experiment, is the profound effect that trees and plants seem to have on my emotions and state of mind. I have been noticing this over and over as I spend more and more time outside exploring different forest preserves. So my friend suggested, rather forcefully, that I get a plant for my room. This was a great idea, and I got a “Dumb Cane” plant for my room right after work.
Since I was out of my normal area, I used yelp to find food near me for a day of new. And I found “Which Wich?” restaurant. It sounded good, so I headed over. The restaurant was very unique. They had different brown paper bags depending on which sandwich you wanted, and a whole surfeit of ingredients listed on the bag. It was awesome because you could check off exactly what ingredients you wanted, and there was an incredible amount of options. I could get the same sandwich ten times and it would be a different one every time. Because of this, my sandwich tasted amazing!
Just as I was finishing and about to leave, out of nowhere a gigantic thunderstorm hit. I watched it through the windows as the trees in the distance were shaking violently, and the rain seemed to be rushing sideways. I briefly was annoyed, but then realized it was fun to sit here on a Friday afternoon, free from work, and just watch the storm pass. At one point, the guy sitting behind me decided to venture out into the the storm. I watched him run to his car, slip, and fall right on his butt into the puddle. He nodded and waved to indicate that he was alright, and then burst into laughter. It was less funny though after about 20 or 30 minutes when I realized the storm wasn’t going to pass, and I would need to brave the same weather to get to my car. Unfortunately I had an umbrella, nice and save inside my car. As I ran out into the monsoon, I was totally expecting to make the same error and slip and fall into a puddle as well. Fortunately that didn’t happen. A successful day 35!
